<image:title>Blog - Kenya 2024 - Our second stop was Nakuru, a place I had visited previously to their new campus. Before, Agape’s work in Nakuru was entirely street-based since they had no dedicated facility to house the children. Staff and volunteers would meet with street children in areas like the Central Business District, connecting with them in public spaces or the stadium area where they helped Loving Friends distribute lunches. This time, though, we were brought to Agape’s new Nakuru campus—a piece of land they now own and have begun transforming into a safe, central space for the children. Seeing the dedicated area marked for a new building, and hearing the plans for the girl’s dorm, classrooms, and counseling rooms, I felt encouraged for the impact these structures will have for the children that Agape serves in Nakuru.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kenya 2024 - We first traveled to Kitale, where we spent time with the children at the campus. *They are working on either buying the land they currently are using for the Kitale location or hoping to find a suitable place soon, in the meantime please pray for this process* We heard stories about children who had been reached through Agape’s street outreach program and were now on campus or at home—stories that illustrated how critical both outreach and a safe campus environment are for kids transitioning off the streets. One of the highlights of our time in Kitale was seeing the joy and energy the children exhibited on campus. We spent 3 days playing with the kids, organizing Vacation Bible Study-based activities, and simply being present with them. It was a privilege to be welcomed into their lives, even briefly, and to see how they’re flourishing under the attentive care of the staff.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kenya 2022 - From Nakuru, we traveled to Kitale, where Agape has a campus to house the children, yet they do not formally own the land. *They are working on either buying the land they currently are using for the Kitale location or hoping to find a suitable place soon, in the meantime please pray for this process* During our time there, we facilitated a Vacation Bible Study-style program while the staff attended trauma-informed training sessions. The trauma-informed training that the staff were participating in was essential, as so many of the children they care for have endured significant hardships. Understanding how to approach and support these kids with sensitivity and compassion is vital to creating a safe environment for healing. It was clear that the Agape staff are dedicated and passionate, and they embraced the training wholeheartedly. Knowing we could provide some fun and care for the kids while they invested in their professional growth felt like a meaningful contribution.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Kenya 2022 - Our last stop was Kisumu, where Agape operates another campus. Like Kitale, our role was to run a VBS program to keep the children engaged while the staff underwent similar trauma-informed training. The kids in Kisumu were eager to participate and engage with us, and so appreciative of our time together. We enjoyed every part of it, from playing games to the quieter moments of teaching and praying together.</image:title>
